Safety by choice, not by chance
Slip testing across East Yorkshire
Independent, UKAS-accredited floor testing for the East Riding — grip measured wet and dry, with a report that proves a floor is safe.
The PTV scale — 36+ is low slip risk.
01 · The number
We put a number on grip
The pendulum swings a calibrated rubber slider across the floor to reproduce a slipping heel, recording a Pendulum Test Value — the PTV — wet and dry. It’s the method the HSE prefers.
| PTV result | Slip risk |
|---|---|
| 0–24 | High |
| 25–35 | Moderate |
| 36 + | Low |
36 or above is the recognised low-risk threshold.
02 · Two methods
Wet, dry and rough
Where floors get contaminated — kitchens, food plants, quaysides — surface roughness (Rz) is measured alongside the pendulum. We’re accredited for both.
Rz in microns; above 20 is low risk.
| Surface roughness (Rz) | Slip risk |
|---|---|
| Below 10 | High |
| 10–20 | Moderate |
| Above 20 | Low |
03 · The law
It’s a duty, not an option
Every employer and occupier must keep floors safe so far as is reasonably practicable, and assess the risk — under the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Workplace Regulations. In care settings, the CQC expects slip risk to be actively managed. A measured PTV is the evidence an insurer, the HSE or the CQC will accept.
04 · Trust
Independent, and accredited
This service is delivered by Surface Performance — entirely independent, with no connection to any flooring or treatment company and nothing to sell but the test. The same accredited lab trusted on sites from Amazon and Gatwick to British Airways and TUI, which also tests over 300 flooring products a year.
